Dogs Are More Than Pets. They’re Partners.

Summit & Hound started because our daughter needed a service dog and we couldn’t afford one. So we trained Kona ourselves. She changed our daughter’s life — and changed ours. That’s why a portion of every Paws with Purpose purchase goes directly toward making service dogs more accessible to the families who need them most, through our partnership with Northwest Elite Working Dogs.”

Service Dog Kona in Spokane Washington

Built for the Bond Between Dogs and People

Some dogs lead us toward adventure. Some teach us patience. Some bring comfort when words are not enough. Some help people reclaim confidence, independence, and a greater sense of freedom.

Summit & Hound exists for the people who understand that bond.

Our apparel earns its place — premium outdoor style built around the real things: loyalty, training, companionship, and the bond that changes everything.

Real Dogs. Real Training

Every design comes from people who have spent 10+ years on the training field. This is not dog-themed apparel. This is apparel built by trainers.

600 Hours of Training

That's what it takes to place one service dog. Your purchase helps make that possible for families who can't afford to wait.

What We Do
Create trainer-designed outdoor apparel that gives dog people a way to wear who they are.
Design select mission-driven products through Paws with Purpose.
Use a portion of profits from those items to help reduce service dog training and placement costs.
Connect the mission to Northwest Elite Working Dogs.

What We Don’t Claim
We do not claim that every shirt buys a service dog.
We do not sell certified service dog apparel.
We do not provide official service dog certification through apparel.
We do not describe purchases as charitable donations unless legally structured that way.

Clear, Honest, and Purpose-Led

We believe mission-driven apparel should be transparent. When you purchase from the Paws with Purpose Collection or join the "Pack" membership, a large portion of profits goes to help reduce the cost of service dog training and placement through our service dog program with Northwest Elite Working Dogs. As Summit & Hound grows, our goal is to continue building a clear, responsible, and meaningful way for customers to support the work behind trained service dog teams.

WHY IT MATTERS

A Trained Dog Can Change a Life

Our daughter needed a service dog. The cost was $15,000 — minimum — and the wait five years or more. We couldn’t afford either. So we learned to train one ourselves.

Kona changed her life in ways that still surprise us. The confidence, the independence, the sense of safety she carries now — none of that was possible before. We’ve spent the last 10+ years training dogs, because of what we saw happen.

We know what it costs. We know what families go through. We know the waiting lists. That’s why Summit & Hound exists — and why a portion of every Paws with Purpose purchase goes directly toward reducing the cost of service dog placement through Northwest Elite Working Dogs.

Our dogs start at $30,000. Medical detection dogs — seizure, diabetic, ECT — run $40,000 to $50,000. Insurance doesn’t cover it. We’re not trying to give dogs away. We’re trying to make sure cost alone is never the reason a family doesn’t get one.

That’s Kona’s legacy. That’s the mission.

Wearable First. Purpose Always.

The mission matters — but so does the apparel.

Every Summit & Hound piece is designed to stand on its own: heritage outdoor styling, premium comfort, and graphics built for real dog people. The purpose behind the brand makes the purchase more meaningful, but the design has to be something you actually want to wear.

WHY IT MATTERS

Cost Should Never Be the Reason

Most people see the price of a trained service dog and assume someone is profiting. They’re not. Here’s what that number actually represents.

Every Northwest Elite Working Dogs service dog enters training at 8 weeks old. From that first day until placement — typically 18 to 24 months later, depending on the tasks required — that dog is fully in our care. We cover the puppy purchase, every meal, every veterinary visit, every health screening, and every training session for the entire duration.  It also covers the 7-14 days of training each new handler will go through before going on their own. It helps cover the ongoing support and the yearly refresher training we offer each team, to make sure they are performing at top performance levels.

By the time a dog is placed, they have completed 600 – 800 hours of intensive, specialized training. Obedience. Public access. Task work specific to their handler’s needs. For medical detection dogs — trained to detect seizures, diabetic events, or ECT — that training is even more demanding, and the timeline reflects it.

Our service dogs start at $30,000. Medical detection dogs run $40,000 to $50,000. Insurance doesn’t cover it. That price isn’t a markup. It’s the honest cost of doing this right.

Families who qualify still contribute about $15,000  toward their dog. Paws with Purpose helps close the gap between what they can pay and what it actually costs to place a dog that will change their life.

We update our community regularly on the dogs currently in training, the milestones they reach, and the families they go home with. When you buy from this collection, you become part of that story.
